For decades, the Gentlemen of Property have been pounding into the thick little skulls of their troglodyte supporters the message that the press is a Leftist cabal run by pointy-headed intellectuals determined to steal their guns, their bibles, and their propty. Everything the Lamestream Media put out was to be mistrusted, ignored, even treated as obvious lies, even when they said nothing at all. In fact, whatever they said, you had to do and think just the opposite. They didn’t just kill the messenger, they used him for reverse psychology.

The campaign has been so successful that for a substantial portion of the populace, the major newspapers, magazines, network TV, and even the Public Broadcasting System and NPR are now dismissed as an arm of the statists; Liberal propaganda and not to be trusted. There is a trog press now which can be relied on for the truth. Everything else is phoobah.

Well, in a classic case of the boy who cried schadenfreude, the campaign has backfired. Now that all the Right has suddenly woken up to the horror of having their political apparatus taken over by the rabble they have so carefully cultivated, under the banner of the Mighty Donald, they have no one to speak for them.

The hoi polloi take no warning from the press seriously any more, whether it be from the NYT or the WSJ. It is just another example of Liberal, or Establishment lies. What’s the diff? All those sober, elegant, erudite prose stylists on the Right, the Krauthammers and the Wills, are simply dismissed as the (ugh!) MODERATES. Even the National Review is ignored as just another RINO nest of traitors. The Donald is protected from criticism from the Left and Right.

The rabble get their news from the supermarket tabloids now, from Fox and talk radio and from viral videos and emails featuring unflattering photographs of Obama doing scandalous things.

It is the best of times, the worst of times.
