Maybe it’s just the abundant news coverage and terrifying video that’s been coming out of the area. Seeing houses and traffic so close to such a massive inferno is just disturbing.

…this sort of “hell on earth” thing is unusual. Apparently it’s been declared too big to fight, and by no small margin.

Coupled with the unprecedented floods in the province a couple of years ago, chalking it all up to “funny old weather,” as I’m sad to say my brother does, seems insufficient.

Or does this kind of wildfire environment seem to be becoming more and more common, like it is in California?

I’ve already heard American Conservatives declaring this fire has nothing to do with the Tar Sands exploitation or climate change, and their ferocity and hysteria about it leads me to believe that just maybe it does.

But I also do appreciate your concern. I have family in Calgary who are well out of harm’s way, but for those in the vicinity of the fire, it’s got to be nerve-wracking.

Decades ago, my brother and I drove past a wildfire in the Canadian Rockies. The flames were shooting hundreds of feet in the air. I can’t imagine what it’d be like to know something like that was headed for your community.
