RL is a hater. He's like the people who line the sidewalks protesting neo-Nazi parades. Not a whit's difference between the two except one picks unpopular causes to hate.

The Saudi Kingdom buys billions of dollars of military hardware from the US every year, and has for decades, a major contribution to America's military industrial complex. They also buy from the UK and China. The kingdom is now third behind the US and China in military spending.

I'm not defending them. Just pointing out the currency flows both ways.

I didn't mean to sound like I'm trivializing your concerns. "Picking nits" was an unfortunate choice of words on my part.

Permit me to suggest, you may be picking nits with a very small subset of all liberals.

We seem to be doing everything we can to prop up Saudi Arabia, and to isolate and restrict Iran. And the two nations are divided bitterly by the Shia/Sunni schism. Nothing good can come of that.

We need to carpet bomb ISIS, not Muslims. Unfortunately, ISIS has human shields, the people that live in the areas they control. In a way, much of the Muslim world is in the position of being human shields for their more radical cousins who are exploiting the political and economic turmoil in the region. Unlike Europe, which has brought over Muslims as cheap labor and ghettoized them, Muslims have come to America and prospered as middle class communities of professionals, managers, businessmen and skilled workers. Criticizing their religion and persecuting them for the actions of their tribal relations half a world a way is not only unfair, it is counter-productive.

Remember, most Mexican-Americans are not drug dealers, gang members or rapists either. In fact, most of them are citizens.

Again you bring up how we bomb them to smithereens when I specifically said that is not the policy I want for this problem. I only want public criticism of their human rights abuses. Wars against extremists are fine, but not against peaceful people who are simply abusing segments of their population. The latter need a harsh light shined on them, not carpet bombings.

They are no where near a true nation-state. Their borders were drawn randomly by the British after WWI. Saudi Arabia will break apart much like Syria, Iraq and Libya in the near future. Furthermore, monarchies are laughable in the 21st Century. This is a country whose official religion of Wahabist Islam looks very much like the official beliefs of ISIS. In fact some members of the Saudi royal family have for decades funded the exportation of this violent intolerant strain of islam around the world, ;eading to the likes of Al Qaeda, ISIS, Boko Harem and the rest. The energy revolution taking place in America diminishes our need to look the other way at the Saudi's human rights abuses as well as their exporting this jihadist monster upon the world. By contrast Iran is a 4000 year old civilization which is much more liberal and open to western ideas. There was almost a democratic revolution in Iran a few years ago. I have no doubt they will someday be an ally of ours again.
