This isn't simply rooting for the 'my side' to win...

It isn't just that I am horrified about the prospect of a charlatan like Trump appointing several supreme court justices...

It isn't just that he has promised to use the presidency to again market his Trump University scam: http://www.redstate.com/leon_h_wolf/2016/06/02/trump-threatens-reopen-trump-university/

It isn't just that he says racist things to appeal to his disproportionately racist supporters...

It isn't that he says one thing in one day and the opposite the next...

It isnt only the fact that he demonstrates terrifying ignorance on important issues on a daily basis.

It isn't that his followers ignore all this when its all right there in front of them...

What concerns me is that we are entering an exceedingly dangerous time in history- where all the damage from our decades of ignoring the facts is coming to fruition. The most dangerous thing we can do right now is to continue to deny reality... it isn't just a matter of our country's survival, but the survival of human civilization as we know it.

The effects of climate change will push the world towards fascism- and we are seeing it happening in europe now. But while they are struggling against it, the Trump supporters here in America are running eagerly towards it.

These are not not just 'slightly different values than mine'- they are a threat to the future of the human race.

They do not have the 'courage of their convictions', they have the bravado and certainty that only the ignorant can have.

I don't think it probable or even likely that Trump will win- but it is a terrifying possibility. Trump isn't really the problem. The problem is the legion of idiots that he represents- Trump may not last beyond November, but the idiots will remain and they will continue to work to tear down humanity piece by piece.

And now that Trump has shown them the way, we will probably face this insanity every 4 years until they find a demagogue that can win.

The Clintons are "divisive" because they successfully and repeatedly resist Conservative efforts to bring them down, and Obama fails to "show leadership" because he can't get anything past deliberately obstructive Republican legislative blackmail and hostage taking, even policies they have supported in the past.

Obama stopped and reversed Bush's Great Recession, and put a stop to his endless wars. Our economy is now the envy of the planet, even those of our biggest and most powerful rivals. He put the nation back to work (<5% unemployment), killed Bin Ladin, decimated Al Quaeda and the Taliban, and has ISIS on the run, on the cheap in terms of blood and treasure. So there's still chaos in the middle east. So what else is new? Under Bush, the region was united against us.

Is everything going hunky-dory? Of course not, it NEVER is, as the party out of power always rightly points out. But things could be a lot worse. That's what the people hoped for in 2008, and that's what they agreed on again in 2012.

The GOP now sees the Democrat streak going on for another 4, maybe 8, years and its nobody's fault but theirs. Trump is actually the best they can come up with, not the worst, and even the bulk of the GOP knows it, although they dare not admit it.

The 21st century has not been a record of Democratic success, it is a testament to Republican incompetence and stupidity. Its not just that their ideology is wrong, its that they don't know what they're doing. They can only win local elections through creative redistricting, gerrymandering, and voter suppression, plus the indifference of an electorate that is, for the most part, happy with the way things are going. (Except, of course, all those old white guys who can't get their way anymore.)

I've said it before, let me repeat it. The Bush Baby was supposed to be the new Reagan, he turned out to be the new Hoover. And Obama will be remembered as the new Roosevelt. BHO may not really deserve those honors, but compared to his Republican rivals, he's starting to look like the New Lincoln. His positive ratings are unprecedented for a lame duck.

So in spite of the generation of hate and vitriol the Right has heaped on Hillary, They are not going to be able to convince America to
abandon her legacy. The last time things were going really well in America a Clinton was in power.

The first is simple. We have different people with different ideas.

On one level we are all human, all Americans, all concerned for our common welfare. We all have families, educations, a common language (mostly), common values.

AND, we seem to have different thoughts as to how to honor our values, different priorities for getting there.

What is divisive, to my mind, is attacking the PERSON who has slightly different values and priorities than mine rather than pointing out how those values and priorities are flawed.

I think it's fair to point out deficiencies in the ideas, values and priorities one has. It's not fair to attack the person who holds those ideas.

In the case of a Hitler that is of course ridiculous. But we don't have any Hitlers, people with the power he had, around here. We are all Americans just wanting the best for ourselves, our families and our country.

Seriously, you wouldn't think definition is necessary, but then you wouldn't be a conservative.

I was talking to one the other day, and he told me that he's going to vote for Trump because he thinks Clinton will be "divisive".

After I regained the power of speech, I asked him if he has some objective criteria by which Hillary is more divisive than a guy whose brand is Divisive™. He went pretzel logic then, diving deep into the '90s at one point, then zig-zagging over into Arkansas...I couldn't tell you where it ended up, except that he came out the other side unshaken in his certainty that Hillary is a "divider".

We'd be making a big mistake assuming that they think like us. Clearly conservatives use words with meanings very different than we liberals (or a dictionary) would understand.

"Divisive" is one of their special victim words, and means "I'm going to be soooooo upset if Clinton is elected!!". Kind of the way "religious freedom" means "ewwww gay!". Basically "you triggered one of my phobias and/or prejudices and made me feel bad!". And that's against the Constitution (vest-pocket Tea Party Edition).

Alternate subject line: Deja vu

I feel a little embarrassed that bowser spoke up and I haven't, lately. It feels like ubermoderator has been sleeping on the job.

At this point you're just stalking and harassing Rob. And I do genuinely feel some deja vu: We've been around this rodeo before. You seem to lack self-restraint to temper your self-righteousness, RL, and have a nasty habit of picking somebody to make an example of. Somebody who you'll make atone for the sins of all the others. Somebody you'll drive out of the HabitableZone to make it "purer".

Knock it off. Let's not reenact a tired conflict from years ago. .

To be fair, it's not just you who's getting repetitious. How many times do we all need to affirm that Donald Trump is a pumpkin-headed demon from hell? So say we all, already. Enough with abusing the dead horse. There are other things happening in the world.
