The incredible crushing despair of the white working class. June 7, 2016 4:32 pm ER

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/06/07/the-incredible-crushing-despair-of-the-white-working-class/?tid=pm_business_pop_b

Americans today say they are generally optimistic about their futures, according to Gallup polling. But one group in particular — poor white Americans — has a shockingly dismal view of what the future holds for them. And this pessimism among poor whites goes a long way toward explaining the strange political moment we find ourselves in, one in which Donald Trump surged to the top of the Republican primary ticket by tapping into a deep vein of racial anxiety among the nation’s working class.

Its only a matter of time before this creeping anomie works its way up into the middle classes. In a world of increasing financial inequality, where all economic gains are expropriated by the elites at the top, and where increases in productivity are all funnelled up to fewer and fewer people, the growth of the dispossessed class is inevitable and unstoppable.

Lets face it, we can’t all be Silicon Valley programmers and high-tech entrepreneurs.
