I had thought that the heroic role Israel plays in fundamentalist evangelical apocalyptic fantasies would eventually come to protect them from this ancient bigotry, but I suppose the roots of racism run strong and deep, and are intertwined intimately in the fabric of fascism. You will note that it is not Israeli/Palestinian politics or Zionism that is the target here, it is the idea of Jewishness itself, the cultural/religious/ethnic complex at the heart of Jewish civilization. that seems to resonate with Herr Heimbach and his Teutonic Kamerads.

I like the Jews. I feel comfortable and at ease around them. I respect them for their conservative antiquity and I admire their modern liberality. Even if I disagree with some of their policies and positions, I have a tendency to favor them as a people and as a culture, and to side with them, and to give them the benefit of a doubt. And I think they have earned the right and cultivated, even perfected, the ability to see and recognize real evil in the world.

I’m not surprised that digging even slightly into the skinhead mentality that seems to be on the march in our country eventually reveals this bottomless reservoir of reckless hate lying just below the surface. This is truly an ancient foulness, a gangrenous pus as old as Babylon and as evil as Hell.

The time for equivalence is over. The time has come to take sides.

The group symbolizes the shift away from organized white extremism, according to Mendelson, who said the party does not have many members. The group may be best known for its chairman, Matthew Heimbach, who is considered “the face of a new generation of white nationalists,” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Heimbach, who did not attend the Sacramento event, does have a history of activism in California alongside the Golden State Skinheads group. Heimbach was one of the keynote speakers at a 2015 gathering of white nationalists in Bakersfield known as “Camp Comradery,” according to Mendelson.

“Our values are normal, they are not fringe. Right now we are living in an environment where the entire western world is, for better or worse, doped up on Jewish propaganda and on this idea of multiculturalism,” Heimbach said, according to a recording of the speech he posted on his YouTube channel.

Other speakers at “Camp Comradery” included William Johnson, a Los Angeles attorney and self-described white separatist who leads the American Freedom Party. This year, Johnson was listed as one of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s California delegates for the Republican National Convention, though the Trump campaign later claimed his addition to the list was a mistake.

Heimbach said two “comrades” were hurt — one stabbed and the other hit in the face with a bottle.

That corroborates a quote in a Guardian article, in which Heimbach made his intention to commit violence crystal clear:

In a post to the organization’s website, Heimbach wrote that he was aware of plans to counter-protest but said: “After carefully weighing the pros and cons, we have decided that this would be our Thermopylae, no matter what it costs.
“We will defend ourselves by any means necessary, and if the police in Sacramento do not protect our right to speak, we will do it ourselves.”

I read another quote this morning, but can’t find it now, in which one of the fascists boasted something to the effect of “they got one of ours, but we got six of theirs!”. An AP report states that one TWP and six counter-protesters were hospitalized with stab wounds.

Rob, the violence you deplore was planned and instigated by the fascists you defend. And they came out the winners, at least in body count.

It sounds like a setup, an ambush in which the neo-nazis lured in counter-protesters armed with signs and rocks, and attacked them with knives.

They’re the ones who brought knives to what should have been a word-fight.

Sneaking into a Trump rally so you can face the crowd and expose your profanity laden signs and t-shirts and start screaming anti-Trump propaganda is a form of peaceful protest?

So if you don’t like what someone’s saying, these “protesters” have the right to silence the speaker, antagonize the crowd and prevent those who came to hear him from doing so?

The “violence” we saw at the Trump rallies was a response to protesters who had the same intent as the anti fascists. The “disruptors” and the anti-fascists are one and the same.
