Actually, I don’t think Trump’s remarks about inviting Putin to hack Democratic emails are treason, and I believe the brouhaha surrounding them is just Democratic assholes and elbows in an effort to discredit Trump by painting him (to his troglodyte supporters) as un-American, a charge Conservatives love to dump on everyone who doesn’t agree with their tax policy.
I’ll take Trump’s word for it, he was being sarcastic, making a lame joke, and one open to misinterpretation by his enemies, and a self-inflicted vulnerability on himself. I really don’t believe he is inviting other countries to commit espionage on us, and I don’t think he loves Vlad the Impaler (other than his Republican inclination to secretly admire all thugs and bullies because of their supposed “toughness” and I-don’t-take-no-shit-from-anybody-or-from inanimate-objects personality). They hold those character traits in high regard, and their absence as a sign of indecision and cowardice.
Having said that, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. This sort of taking-things-out-of-context, and deliberate exaggeration (usually in matters of national security, treason, defense, etc, (you know, the patriotic virtues) is precisely the sort of politics that the GOP has specialized in lately, and it is a real treat seeing it turned against them for a change. It might also prove a bit instructive to the STrumpets that shooting your mouth off without thinking about how what you’re saying is going to be interpreted by the rest of the world when you are on the global stage. They don’t call it “political correctness” for nothing. It’s really just common sense, discretion, and good manners.
