Sadly, it seems that white folk are white folk no matter where you go. Canada's whites, or Caucnadians as I sometimes think of them, too often seem naturally predisposed to picture themselves at the center of a universe that an old white guy in the sky created for them.

I grew up in Alberta, a *very* conservative province (its current government notwithstanding). Historically, western Europeans were usually welcome as immigrants--others, not so much. On the suburban street where we lived in the 60s, there were no non-white families that I recall. That was the situation even into the 80s.

I think opportunists like Ezra Levant, seeing just how profitable it's been to fan the flames of mistrust and political division in the US, are taking to the Canadian media with vehicles like "The Rebel" to see just how much money they can scare out of conservative pockets.

It seems to me, though, that The Rebel is even more willing to support Trump at his word than is Fox News. They don't seem to engage in even the tiny amount of push back that Fox has shown lately (like Fox's tepid suggestion that perhaps Obama is in fact not the literal founder of ISIS).

Do they conveniently forget that English-speaking Canadians
weren't the original inhabitants of the Great White North? And what about the recent wave of immigrants from the USA and the UK? I know many Canadians can trace their ancestry to escaped slaves from the US and English Royalists from the American War of Independence, but I'm curious if these groups are seen as more authentically Canadian than immigrants from the 20th century and later, such as West and East Indians, Italians, Portuguese, Asians etc.

I've known quite a few Canadians, mostly of British extraction, and they do seem to have some resentment of the non-English speaking nations that have emigrated there--although to be fair, they don't seem as mean-spirited and potentially violent as their USA counterparts.

Given that there does appear to be some nativism and suspicion of "foreigners" in Canada, I am really curious to understand why it hasn't seemed to turn as nasty and ugly as it has South of the Border.
