Conservative politicians have never been shy about interpreting foreign policy issues in a way that favors their own commercial and ideological interests. In the Trump gang, not just Carter Page, but Paul Manafort's dealings with the Kremlin and pro-Kremlin Ukrainian thugs from that country's last regime, as well as Trump's own business interests in Russia, go a long way to explaining the so-called "bromance" between the Trump/Putin oligarchies.

But it doesn't stop there. Remember Iran-Contra? How about the the "October Surprise" where The Reagan Administration allegedly made secret deals with the Ayatollahs to coordinate the release of American Hostages with Reagan's Presidential Inauguration? There was never any solid proof of that one, but the timing was sure suspicious. And how about Nixon sending Anna Chennault to South Vietnam to throw a monkey wrench in the peace negotiations so that LBJ's peace talks would be delayed until after the election? Interfering with diplomatic negotiations of the US government is treason, you know, but that rule doesn't seem to apply to the Gentlemen of Property. After all, they're entrepreneurs, they know better than the rest of us.

And how about the infamous "Wheat Deal" with the Russians, engineered during the Nixon administration to line the pockets of US grain cartels and banks, (the latter provided the financing because the USSR was broke) at the expense of everybody else. Look it up, we took a bath on that one.

Heaven knows, incompetence in government is not reserved for Conservatives, but it must be remembered that the GOP is the party of business, and it is not the business of America that is on top of their agenda, it is the business lobbies in their constituency, their campaign contributors, that call the shots. The philosophy of "what's good for business is good for America" has become perverted to "what's good for MY business is what's good for America".

American business has shipped American jobs and industry overseas so that it could concentrate on the more profitable aspects of commerce (marketing and finance, not manufacturing). Lets face it, it is big business that benefits from unfair trade practices and grotesque trade imbalances. And Asian slave labor doesn't have unions. At first it was just highly skilled and well paid factory jobs in US manufacturing and heavy industry that suffered, now that rot is creeping up into the ranks of middle management and the service economy. We used to have Detroit and Pittsburgh, now we have Wal-Mart pushing cheap Chinese houshold goods. These are the people who blindly follow Trump, who can't afford not to believe; the middle class white guy whose American Dream has been crucified by the MBAs, financial pukes and middlemen. So now he's being told its the Mexicans and the blacks who've taken his job away, and the Muslims that threaten his suburban safety. And one by one, manufactured shortages force him deeper and deeper into debt: energy, credit, housing, medical care, education---what's next, food?

They can't afford to NOT believe Trump's lies. Once he's gone, they've got nothing else.
