...unless someone says something really stupid, or is perceived to have said something really stupid, neither of which is very likely. Most of the viewers have already made up their minds, and those that haven't by now obviously have a severe judgement problem.

I am a Hillary supporter. Although I certainly don't agree with them, I can at least understand why some people might find her to be unacceptable as President. But I can't understand anyone who would prefer Trump as President. Even people who see Clinton as incompetent or even immoral could certainly not rather see Trump in the White House. The only reasonable alternative for these folks would be to either leave the POTUS choice blank or write in some fringe candidate as a symbolic protest and vote for the down-ballot candidates they found acceptable.

The man is an ignoramus, a thug and a boor, and quite possibly a criminal. Period. This isn't just my ideology speaking; it's an opinion shared by the majority of people in his own party. Those who feel that way and still vote for him, for purely ideological reasons, are essentially dishonest and do their country a great disservice. Those who don't feel that way and choose to vote for him anyway may be mistaken, but at least they are sincere. What scares me is that there is so damn many of them.

Trump can be defeated, but those who are loyal to him personally are going to be a weight this nation will carry for another generation.

I wonder what George Lakoff must be thinking, seeing his archetypical "strong father figure" facing off against the "nurturing mother" archetype (stay with me, they're just archetypes, not to be taken literally).

The terrified little authoritarians are lining up behind the Strong Man who literally says "only I can save you!". Leaving Nurturing Mother to try to keep us calm and carrying on.

Same as it ever was, in other words. Unique in our time, maybe, but this is an archetypical story that keeps haunting us from deep in our primate psyches.

Spoiler alert: Historically, I'd bet on testosterone. But hope that times, they are a'changing.
