Why does such an inconsequential detail (how his inauguration attendance stacks up against his predecessor's) cause him so much distress? It really doesn't matter, even if it were true.

Is this an example of obsessive-compulsive behavior? Or could it be a symptom of something much more serious? It occurs to me that if I were in his position and was really convinced that the press had deliberately deflated my attendance figures in an attempt to embarrass or belittle me, the last thing I would want to do is show my concern about it by hysterically bringing it up over and over. Even if he were right about this (and we have already demonstrated he is not) the smartest thing to do would be to get it out of the public's mind as quickly as possible by moving on to something else.

It's not just irrational behavior on his part, insisting on getting his way is counter-productive to his own interests. Again, it calls to mind Capt Queeg's court martial testimony about the strawberries.

This is really scary. Maybe Rob should ask Big Joe and see what he thinks. 8)
