The Cubans in Miami are one example. So are the Czarist (White Russian) Refugees that flocked to Paris after the October Revolution, still fighting the Soviets. And the Irish immigrants in New York, even today still agitating and fund-raising for the IRA.

There are other immigrant communities that are still heavily involved in militant politics in their home countries; the Vietnamese, the Taiwanese, the Haitians, the Armenians, the Venezuelans, the Tibetans, all at varying degrees of activism. These folks have all, for the most part, shown themselves to be good citizens (after all, emigration tends to select for the brave, the risk takers, the ambitious, the hard workers, the well-educated and the adaptable). But there will always be those among them that have their own agendas back in the Old Country.

Although I am suspicious of much of the current Right-wing efforts to keep America white, Anglo and Christian, I am well aware that all nations need to have a very well thought out and efficiently managed immigration policy. For example. I just heard on the news this morning that a bunch of Silicon Valley executives have submitted a petition to President Trump asking him to re-consider his immigration policy. They need their Guptas and Mohammeds. Mars Needs Women and America needs its nerds.

It appears that since American students have abandoned math and science training for college degrees in business administration, sports journalism, fashion marketing and other such management affectations and dilletantism, American tech has become increasingly dependent on third world scientists and engineers, very well trained in their own countries at public expense, and willing to work here for a pittance compared to their rapidly aging (and numerically diminishing) American counterparts.

And in a related development that has yet to fully play itself out—American women are now graduating in greater numbers from high schools and colleges and at a greater rate than American men, and many of them are being encouraged to taking up careers in technical fields. You can’t teach little boys who can’t read or write or do fractions how to code, and we can’t all be entrepreneurs. The demand is there, and it can only grow. Women will take up the slack. They’re already increasingly becoming the breadwinners.

The inevitable result that is that middle-aged white men will become an increasingly endangered and marginalized (and unemployable)demographic. Perhaps one day we may be hearing about the gender gap in salaries for men. Perhaps the Trump phenomenon is just a subconscious realization of this future. The cerebral cortex can be conned indefinitely, the lymbic system can’t be lied to forever.

Meanwhile, all you hear on the news today is what happened at the Superbowl last night.
