I remember going with him to Radio Shack with a bag full of vacuum tubes to test when our TV didn't work. He taught me so much.

To work:

Glad button and tires are similar. I know that there are some here that enjoy the backroom, using the dashboard to see comments chronologically, including me. The Classic Zone did this with colored text. Some method of seeing what's new is important.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the editor. Having to correct simple code with an edit is a pain.

I always found the categories of users and their privileges troublesome. And you well know that I want to open up participation and registration on the Space Board, at the very least. Long discussion, but I like a private community board that uses the same interface - not e-mail.

Looking forward to touring the new ship.

Sounds like the last three weeks have been an odyssey. I'm sorry to hear about your uncle.

To work. New tires are much like the current tires, and the buttons too. It's a newer version of WordPress, and as before, you're an administrator. I'm designing-out the need for anybody else to have to get into the backroom, by using WordPress's built-in author pages to do things like change your password. I've created my own WYSIWYG editor so you won't have to use WordPress's. Having my own editors gets me closer to the ideal of minimizing the differences between a root article and replies, to counter what I think are the toxic effects of making comments and commenters distinctly second-class. It's why "Internet comment section" has become a synonym for "raging tire fire".

The structure of the new site is the same initially, though over time I want to transition to a tag-based architecture. One thing I decided not to do this time around was have a "ModSquad Lounge" just for moderators (editors in the new regime). Our experience with it seemed negative on balance, with the biggest problems the creation of a clique and suspicion of those not on the "inside". That's not to say editors shouldn't communicate for business on a sub rosa basis e.g. email, I just don't want the social consequences of a private board.

I'll send you an email as soon as the site's ready for you to take a look. And thanks for your support and enthusiasm!

Phew, I'm tired.

Been away from Home Base for the last three weeks. I've been in several states, a couple of countries, and lots of airports. I've seen dozens of family members and wandered through a whole range of emotions, from profound sadness at the funeral of my only uncle (a brilliant scientist) to the joy of reading the most recent Varley novel (Dark Lightning, 2014) under a tropical sun with a bucket o' beer at my side. I've a headache, a cold, thirsty plants, and jet-lag.

But I'm back and ready to kick the tires of our new ship.

"What does this button do?"
