They all seem to be rather off, either overtly racist or unusually stupid--and demonstrably so. Proudly so. And I'd include Ivanka and her husband in that assessment, and Pence as well.

Even if hank is right about Trump not being a complete dolt, that leaves him as easily the most duplicitous man to ever inhabit the White House, and a clear and present danger to the United States of America.

The only *possible* exception might be Mattis. The rest just aren't right in the head.

This will not end well.

I can understand why some folks could have genuine moral or ethical scruples about abortion. But I cannot understand why anyone would find contraception unacceptable, unless it was just because they couldn't stand to see someone getting laid without being punished for it.

“You know, family planning is something that occurs between a husband and a wife and God, and it doesn’t really involve the federal government..."

If she really believed that, she wouldn't be actively lobbying for the Federal Government to make it illegal. No, this crowd isn't opposed to contraception on legitimate moral or religious grounds, they just can't tolerate other people fucking.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/01/trump-teresa-manning-family-planning-role

Manning made her comments on contraception and family planning during a 2003 media tour to promote a book she had edited about the future of the anti-abortion movement.

“I always shake my head,” she told C-Span, explaining her views on family planning. “You know, family planning is something that occurs between a husband and a wife and God, and it doesn’t really involve the federal government, much less the United Nations, where we hear about family planning all the time. What are they doing in that business?”

In an interview with Boston’s NPR affiliate, Manning, who at the time went by Teresa Wagner, claimed that “contraception doesn’t work”.

“Its efficacy is very low,” she said, “especially when you consider over years – which, a lot of contraception health advocates want to start women in their adolescent years, when they’re extremely fertile, incidentally, and continue for 10, 20, 30 years. The prospect that contraception would always prevent the conception of a child is preposterous.”

In fact, many types of contraception, particularly IUDs and other implants designed to stay in the body for long periods of time, have a nearly 100% success rate at preventing pregnancy.

...its not about ideology, or economics, or culture. This is still the last remnant, the final manifestation of Nixon's Southern Strategy. Its about slavery. the Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Segregation--and now a reaction to the Civil Rights Movement (and horrors! a black President). I think that really shook a lot of people right down to their foundations.

This single theme can be traced all the way back to the earliest North American settlements on this continent, well over a century before the Declaration of Independence. It surfaces in a myriad ways, in many disguises, and calls itself many names, but it is clearly the same conflict, the same evil. Americans refuse to see it because, like fish, they have no concept that they swim in a dense fluid that shapes their lives, their history, and their very existence.

I thought Obama's election would put it to rest once and for all, but I was mistaken. It just kicked the coals and the fire has blazed yet again.

You will note Mr Trump's history lesson didn't mention "slavery" or "racism" even once. He, and his followers, like the fish swimming in the sea, simply can't see it. They have no idea it is even there.

A Trump Cabinet member who was with the President the night he launched airstrikes on Syria characterized the attack as a form of "entertainment" on Monday.

Reflecting on last month's strike, ordered as Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said: "It was in lieu of after-dinner entertainment."
"The thing was, it didn't cost the President anything to have that entertainment," Ross said at the Milken Institute's Global Conference in California, according to Variety.
Requests for comment from the Commerce Department and the White House were not immediately returned.
