But one of his conceits is that he is a master of logic and only he understands the English language with sufficient subtlety and comprehension, that no one else does, therefore no one else knows what they are talking about.

When I say "coup", or "fascist" or "asshole" you don't need to reach for a dictionary. Everybody knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Clear to those who are capable of at least some subtlety in their thinking, that is. Not all 'Zone members fall into that category.

They don't want to pay any taxes at all.

Then they'll invest every penny they save into opening new plants and hiring new workers, and you know they'll all be Americans, they won't have to hire Asian and South Americans to build their shit any more.

What I want to know is, if they succeed, who are they gonna get to BUY their shit?

Loopholes and deductions lower the effective tax rate immensely...

20% of big companies pay zero corporate taxes

'Bout an old cowpoke who left a jar full of water next to a pump so the next traveler that needed a drink could start the suction to draw more water out of the well. The note left with the jar explains that the water is for priming, not drinking. And if you trust it, you'll have all the water you can use. The moral is you must think of the next man, as well as yourself. Refill the jar for the next thirsty traveler before you move on. Thank ye kindly, Desert Pete.

In a related topic; I am so sick and tired of hearing how heavily taxed we are as a nation. American companies are usually more highly taxed than foreign ones. But the taxes on the average American worker are often lower than they are in most other countries. Of course, in other countries, they actually get something for their tax dollar, like health care and education.

Republicans would like to reverse that schedule; lower taxes on corporations and raise them for people. Unless, of course, the people get their income from stock or capital gains.

Merriam-Webster reminds President Trump that he didn't invent 'prime the pump'

In news that few will find surprising, it appears that President Trump did not, in fact, invent the term "prime the pump" as he asserted in a recent interview with the Economist.

Merriam-Webster set the record straight.
The surreptitiously sassy source for questions about language tweeted a thread Thursday morning clarifying the origins of the phrase, which actually dates to the early 19th century.

This is just the latest example this week of Merriam-Webster weighing in on current events.

Searches for the word "atrocity" were up more than 5,200% Wednesday after White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders alleged that fired FBI Director James Comey had committed "basic atrocities" during his tenure, Merriam-Webster reported Wednesday.

http://www.economist.com/Trumptranscript

President Trump: That all goes into tax reduction. Tremendous savings.

But beyond that it’s OK if the tax plan increases the deficit?
It is OK, because it won’t increase it for long. You may have two years where you’ll…you understand the expression “prime the pump”?

Yes.

We have to prime the pump.

It’s very Keynesian.

We’re the highest-taxed nation in the world. Have you heard that expression before, for this particular type of an event?
Priming the pump?
Yeah, have you heard it?
Yes.
Have you heard that expression used before? Because I haven’t heard it. I mean, I just…I came up with it a couple of days ago and I thought it was good. It’s what you have to do.
It’s…
Yeah, what you have to do is you have to put something in before you can get something out.

So I didn't use the approved dictionary definition of coup d'etat. Which is literal for "Blow (or strike) of state".

So, excuuuuuuuuuse me! In Spanish, its golpe de estado, literally and figuratively, the exact same thing. "Golpe" , like "coup", means "blow", or "strike", as in "to punch with your fist or a truncheon". So maybe "coup" is a technically incorrect term for an illegal and overt attempt by a sitting executive to pervert the nation's constitution or government.

But if you'll pardon my French, that's a pretty chicken-shit distinction. I don't think English has a precise term for that particular action, so I had to resort to a phrase that should have been clearly understandable to anyone in the context that I used it. English may not be my first language, but I do know the rudiments.

BTW, I don't use the approved dictionary definition for "Fascist" either, but I know one when I see one.

My God, TB. You can be such an ass, sometimes.
