I can see that they don't like paying taxes that provide a service to others that they have to pay for themselves. Whether or not you agree with them, at least it makes sense. But there are lots of things that rich people are taxed for in order to provide something for poor people--like Social Security, public education, welfare, unemployment comp, legal aid. Rich people are opposed to these things too, but not like Obamacare. This really steams them, it heaps them, it drives them friggin' nuts.

They want to stop this so bad they can't even think straight. They are so desperate to stop it they are rushing through something with so little thought, planning, preparation and study that it is almost certainly due to fail regardless of whatever merit it might have, and that failure will be blamed on them forever. In the long run, it will have to be replaced with something else that will look and sound a lot like Obamacare, or at least it will be perceived that way.

Maybe its because they realize that 10, 20, maybe 50 years down the road, when people read about the National Health Care system in the USA, and its history, there will be a picture in the book of a woman, and a black man, both Democrats, that pioneered the law around the turn of the 21st century. Think of how they feel about the New Deal, Social Security, welfare. And he was a rich white guy. Think about how they feel about the Great Society--well he was a white guy too. As much as they may complain about Roosevelt and Johnson, those programs are wildly popular and will be here forever, and the Republican Party's only role in their development was an attempt to stop them from coming about.

That's why they will stop at nothing to discredit Obamacare. A white woman was instrumental in getting a National Health program started in America, and although she failed, a black man managed to get it passed into law. This really pisses them off. It pisses them off so bad they can't even think straight.

Then again, maybe I'm over-thinking this. Maybe there's other reasons (besides racism and sexism) why they hate all forms of Socialized Medicine. First, the medical industry is phenomenally profitable, and it is growing even in a time of economic hardship. Its a market-proof business, you can only buy it from them, and no one who can afford it dares live without it. Pain and death are strong market incentives. Its the goose with all the golden eggs, those that have a piece of it don't want it to ever stop, and those who have been paying to feed that goose want to make sure no one else gets it for free.

And there's one more thing. For the average working man, health expenses are the one thing that can ruin him. No matter how hard or how smart he works, how frugal he is or how careful he is in his business and expenses, how conscientious he is in his profession, the one thing that can bankrupt him overnight is sickness or injury to himself or his family.

With something like that hanging over your head, you'll think twice about looking for a new job, starting your own business, going back to school or just telling your boss to go to hell. Remember when you were young and felt invincible and immortal, how you were willing to take chances, risks, in the hope you could bootstrap yourself into something better? But now that you're older, mortal, committed and over-extended, with wife and kids, its not the same, is it? You will put up with whatever the Boss is dishing out in order to protect yourself and your family, from oblivion.

Maybe that's why they hate it so much. That's what gives them the hold they have over you. And they don't want to give that up.

No debate, no committees, no hearings, no press or public reaction, the only thing this bill has going for it is it repudiates Obamacare. They have the votes and they're going to railroad it through before anyone knows what's in it.
