They can't afford to admit Trump is wrong. because...

1) It will mean they were wrong
2) It will not only mean they were wrong, but that they fell for a con.
3) The Liberal elites and the mainstream media were right.
4) They fear their entire political philosophy will be judged by the actions of their champion.

There is especially some truth to the last one.

In the black/white, us/them, my way or the highway bizarro world of the Redneck Right
its more about the discrediting and humiliation of your enemies than it is about the relative
merit of policy or philosophy. Look at it this way: when a Liberal does something particularly
stupid, criminal or perverse, his fellow Liberals cringe, are embarrassed and sheepishly try to change the subject and look the other way. They KNOW the difference between right and wrong. Think of Anthony Weiner or Gary Hart. When a Republican screws up, they go directly into reflexive damage control mode; if a Republican steps on his dick, its always some big lefty conspiracy, or we are told indignantly about some Democrat who allegedly did something similar back in the Clinton administration. It didn't always use to be this way, I've been watching this peculiar form of Republican behavior evolve ever since Watergate, until it was perfected during Iran-Contra.

Liberals are just as likely as Conservatives to be criminal, tyrannical, corrupt, stupid or otherwise unfit for office. Those are human failings, not ideological ones. The real philosophical difference between the two points of view is how Conservatives are willing to look the other way and make excuses when they see their tax cuts and regulatory "reforms" threatened. Its not the philosophy they are defending, its the agenda. And the agenda is always about money and corporate power.

I'm concerned about John McCain. His little outburst at the hearing was truly embarrassing. I don't often agree with McCain's politics, but I respect him as a man of integrity, honor and true patriotism. What we saw at that hearing looked like senility--not his fault for sure, but still regrettable. I hope it was just extreme fatigue, as he himself joked later. The last time I saw a political figure fall apart like that in public it was Rick Perry, but it later turned out he was suffering from an unexpected reaction from his pain medication after back surgery, and I believed him. I do hope Sen McCain is OK.

I watched that entire hearing, and due to the aspect ratio of my TV screen, the banner at the bottom of the page cut off the political party of the Senators questioning Mr Comey. For the most part, I could not tell the party affiliation of most of the questioners from the partisan tone of their remarks. I only detected one Democrat and two Republicans by their effort to spin Comey's remarks, one of the latter really made a fool of himself by how carefully and obviously he parsed his questions, diagramming the sentences, in order to get Comey to trip up. But for the most part, it appears the Senators were asking the right questions in a fair manner. Quite a difference from the House Benghazi Bullshit hearings, eh?

I think you're right. The Trump Trogs will simply dismiss any evidence against him as the Mainstream Media or the Liberal Conspiracy. Eventually, even the conventional GOP leadership will have to move against him because they will see their core financial agenda threatened; but they will be dismissed by the True Believers as (what else?) the Republican Establishment. What's the latest term? The Deep State.

You cannot reason with people like that. The best you can do is make fun of them until they go away. And FWIW, that appears to be getting easier every day that goes by.

Wagons have circled, ranks have closed, the decision has been made. Comey wasn't enough to inspire repubs to take Trump down, not even close. In fact, quite the opposite. Did you see Little Marco, beaming like a Cheshire Cat that forgot to disappear? He's so far up Trump's ass the only way he'll ever get out is by using a turd as a surfboard. Even McCain seemed to be onside with President Deferment, who once essentially defined McCain's time in uniform as a gigantic fail.

Trump is their guy, and not the lies told, the threats tweeted or the pussies grabbed will change that. With the GOP now his life vest, there's not enough hooker piss in all of Russia to sink Donny.
