Isn't it fascinating how all the great Conservative crusades of the recent past are now being held up by the very people who promoted them as examples of evil, and Liberal conspiracies? Birtherism, as you point out, is now pointed to as a great hoax. Today, its difficult to find a wingnut who admits he once rabidly supported the baby Bush invasion of Iraq. You know, the one about WMDs. And for those of us with long memories, its hard to wrap our minds around the way the GOP backed Nixon on Watergate. They now self-righteously use the "W" word as an example of government corruption, unconstitutional behavior and tyranny.

It's not surprising. Look how many Germans today claim their families sheltered fugitive Jews in their basements during the Third Reich.

The White Wing Wackosphere is definitely undergoing some sort of weird internal instability. I think they sense something is coming, some sort of bad news (for them), but they are not quite sure what it is, or how they will respond to it.

Although I personally don't think anyone on the Trump team was actually involved in collusion with the Russians, or in any form of treason, there is probably some lesser malfeasance going on that will be embarrassing to them, some kind of Russian blackmail or irregular contact that will look very bad when it is eventually exposed. Its sort of like the Donald's tax returns---I don't think there's anything illegal there either, but there is something he doesn't want known or publicized--like he's used some technicality to avoid paying any taxes. I don't think the Russians actually swayed the result of our election, but they sure as hell tried. That's bad, but nowhere near as scary as having a President that refuses to believe it.

Meanwhile, the CIC keeps on announcing he is innocent of charges no one has yet accused him of, and obsessing about things no one blames him for (like the inauguration crowd size, or whether or not he is under investigation, or whether his election was legitimate. That has to look sketchy, even to his sycophants.

I think they also realize that sooner or later Trump is going to be faced with a genuine crisis; a military conflict, a political scandal, a natural disaster, or perhaps an economic crash, and he will bungle it in truly spectacular fashion, even if it wasn't his fault to begin with. After watching him for the last few months, we all know this is inevitable, and so do they. They are going to have to spin it somehow, and they are trying to psych themselves up for it, and desperately trying to figure out what it might be so they can get their story straight ahead of time.

And of course, it will soon become apparent to even his most diehard supporters that the Republican majority in House and Senate has yet to actually produce any legislation whatsoever. And even if they do manage to pull off their long-promised Obamacare reversal, it will soon reveal itself to be an incoherent and unimplementable catastrophe. Meanwhile, tax "reform" and infrastructure legislation drift imperceptibly into the dim, distant future. Knock on wood.

Pretty soon, the imaginary sins of Obama and the hoped-for sins of Hillary will be forgotten, even by the trogs and knuckle draggers, and no longer available as excuses. Meanwhile, we are rattling sabers at the N Koreans, gearing up for a naval war with the Chinese, exchanging threats with the Russians, sending more troops to Afghanistan and trying to pick a fight with the Iranians and the Cubans. And when ISIS finally falls, the Islamic terrorism will continue unabated because this is not a clash between Jesus and Mohammed but a Civil War between Shiite and Sunni we seem to be insisting on getting involved in.

And summer is here, and the ice at the poles keeps melting away before our eyes. Happy solstice.
