The Nazis had their “racial science”, and an entire anthropological infrastructure devoted to finding archaeological and ethnographic proof of the superiority of the Nordic Race, and the degeneracy and corruption of every other, especially the Jews. They also had “German Physics” as an alternative to the “Jewish Physics” of Einstein and other founders of modern physics. There were 10
Nobel prizes awarded to German Jews for science between 1905 and 1931.

National Socialist university professor Wilhelm Mueller, wrote, in his book, “Jewry and Science” (quoted in Shirer’s “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”, “Life in the Third Reich: 1933-1937″);

“[Einstein Theory is]…directed from beginning to end toward the goal of transforming the living—that is, the non-Jewish—world of living essence, born from a mother earth and bound up with blood, and bewitching it into spectral abstraction in which all individual differences of peoples and nations, and all inner limits of the races, are lost in unreality, and in which only an unsubstantial diversity of geometric dimensions survives which produces all events out of the compulsion of its godless subjection to laws.”

American fascists may not have the same disdain for Relativity and Jewish science as their Nazi predecessors, but like all fascists, they seem to share that obsessive mysticism and sycophantic bully-worship.

Rather than race, the American mullahs draw heavily on the pseudosciences of Creationism and Intelligent Design, they have declared war not only on evolutionary biology, but on geology and astronomy as well, both which support the former’s old earth, anti-Genesis timeline. Their eventual foray into an “American” climatology only awaited a strong economic incentive. For the fascists, the purpose of science is to produce profitable products and more effective weapons of war.

There is no a priori reason this parallelism should exist, but it does, so it must reflect some inner psychological component common to both ideologies—or perhaps I should say, both variations of that same ideology.

Shirer’s book remains an invaluable aid to understanding the complex inner dynamics of modern Conservative thought and practice. I grant it is dangerous and simplistic to over-rely on metaphors and analogies from other times and places and peoples to help understand contemporary events. But its not surprising that similar conditions do tend to produce similar results. The parallels do indeed exist. I can’t recommend this book too much. It has really helped me understand how the psychological motivations of the Conservative mind, operating through analogous social and economic conditions, sometimes give insight into subsequent history.

You really need to read this book. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich certainly cannot predict our future, but for the time being, it is the best map we have available.
