I was driving home late last Monday and could have sworn the moon was being eclipsed. It had that same blood red look, but dimmer. I called my wife and told her to look at the moon, that I though it was an ecclipse. She looked and it took her a while to find it, the full moon was so dark. She even woke up my kids to look a the moon.

As I was driving home and catching glimpses of the thing I kept wondering when it was going to end. If it was in full eclipse when I started driving, it should have started coming out of it by the time I got to my exit. That's when I realized I was wrong and it was just the heavy smoke from the forest fires. So I got home, explained my error to the family. For the rest of the week my wife and kids joked about the fake lunar eclipse.

Anyway, this weekend we are headed to Boise to see the totality. I've been planning this since last year. Luckily we are staying with friends, so won't be price gouged by a hotel. I also bought my 10 pack of eclipse glasses back in May before the gouging and fake chinese glasses hit the market. I doublechecked them again yesterday and no recall on these made-in-america babies. The same glasses are now 100 bucks for a 10-pack on amazon. Glad I bought early.

The smoke is finally starting to disappear here in the Paciic Northwest. Last week was about as bad as I have ever seen it.

Anyway, hoping the weather holds, the smoke clears some more, and the crowds are at least classy. 2 out of 3 wouldn't be bad either, as long as the weather is one of them.
