Although I fully share the feelings of you and RL about the doubtful membership of Donald Trump in the human species, I simply agree with RL that the situation is in real danger of spiraling out of control due to Donald Trump’s uniquely dangerous stew of incompetence and maliciousness.

The basic problem is this: Our(technically) President can be baited by a tweet. And Kim Jong Un is yanking Trump’s chain so hard his head might fly off at any moment.

Can you not recognize one of the most epic pieces of trolling ever, in North Korea’s threat to bracket Guam, but not not hit it, with missiles? And I’m pretty sure they didn’t say those four missiles would be nuclear-tipped, they just want to show they can. If Kim feels like it some day. Or maybe not. The Mutual Madman Theory seems to be the 21st century’s answer to Mutual Assured Destruction.

How would No Drama Obama be handling himself in this situation (not that he’d have ever let it get this far)? I’m thinking something more along the lines of “every fool on the planet knows what we’re capable of, sit down and be quiet”.

You know: Speak softly, carry a big stick.

Never claimed that- their ‘Dear Leader’ Kim is a vile creature that destabilizes the world- If I could hit a button and wipe out their government I would do so and not feel any guilt…

But unfortunately the situation isn’t that simple, and the price of miscalculation are far too dire…

There is no simple answer here, but we have a simple man making the decisions on this issue- and that is very dangerous.

What IS simply clear is that our president is currently pushing things to a more dangerous place, backing himself and NK into a corner where less lethal options are impossible.

NK is not a victim, but our president is -perhaps out of his innate incompetence, or possibly deliberately- doing all he can to increase the danger.

There is a reason experts and leaders on all sides are saying that he is doing exactly the wrong things…

And that is Trump. Contrary to the hysterics, even IF NK has nukes that can be put on missiles, they still have failed to demonstrate a warhead that can survive re-entry... NK knows if they use a nuke, then they will be annihilated. Trump, however views nukes in the same way a sociopathic 9 year old views an air-rifle... As a toy to be used against easy targets to satisfy his darkest desires... And if he decides to use his toy, there really isn't a process to stop him... The insane bluster of this president only serves to block paths away from war. It terrifies our allies, and backs both the president and NK into a corner where they have to do the unthinkable or lose face...
