The parallels with the early days of the Third Reich are becoming more and more obvious.

I guess its possible it was a drunk driver or someone lost control of their car, but I doubt it… the video of the driver making their escape showed they were able to drive just fine.

What IS clear is that this was murder and attempted mass murder-

No matter how it turns out, the bloodshed is just getting started- these neo-nazis showed up with guns fantasizing about using them.

A possible complication: Just read a report that that the fascimobile caused two other vehicles to crash. Could the report be referring to one of the other vehicles?

I was watching a clip from CBSN, CBS’s Internet streaming service, pretty much raw footage with voice-over from Charlottesville.

As time went on, it became clearer and clearer that you could distinguish the two sides by their weaponry. The alt-right fascists did their best to dress up like a SWAT team, with helmets, batons, bullet-proof vests and body armor, and shields, all looking manufactured and not improvised.

The counter-protesters, with a few exceptions, were armed with signs and a powerful sense of outrage.

Many on the right carried guns, and as I studied them carefully, I started to pick up on the (barely) concealed weaponry.

In this clip, at 3:50, the guy in blurry brown in the foreground, has just casually dropped his shield. He keeps walking, and we see what’s concealed behind it next to the arm straps:

It’s a crappy internet video that provides few clean frames, so it’s more obvious when you see it in motion and your eye can integrate successive frames.

That’s a propane torch.

I compared images of propane torches and fire extinguishers, but I’m pretty sure it’s a torch, because no fire extinguisher has the long brass tube extending from the top at an angle. And why conceal a fire extinguisher? Why carry one, for that matter?

Reports from another venue tell of the fascists trying to spray counter-protesters with lighter fluid.

The North Carolina House of Representatives approved legislation in a lopsided 67-48 vote Thursday that would shield drivers from civil liability if they collide with protesters.

Opponents say the legislation is unnecessary and may give drivers the false impression they can maliciously run over activists. One Democrat warned it would make the state the butt of jokes about being full of “dumb rednecks.”

But Republican proponents, who sent the measure to the state Senate by a veto-proof margin, say recent encounters between activists and drivers makes the reform both sensible and necessary.
