Remember how precious it was when they'd call themselves "the party of ideas"? They don't even bother hiding any more that they're just the party of anti-liberal.

Basically, they let us do all their thinking for them.

The nightmare vision is that there's a pendulum swinging, and due to coriolis forces, we're doomed to circle the drain...one or two terms' of a Presidential administrations make some progress, then another populist/cryptofascist/ultra-rightwing cabal gets another shot at power, and spend all their time just undoing what the previous administration did.

Forever.

Circling the drain. Forever.

We have to think beyond the next election.

They just don't care- they enjoy the fact that it pisses off the left...

Sort of like a jock driving his school bus off a cliff because that will really piss off the nerds at the back of the bus...

Just today while driving to lunch I heard a caller to the Rush Limbaugh show saying that he hadn't voted for Trump in the primary, and didn't vote at all in the general election because the 'issues' with Trump- but after seeing how Trump made liberals scream he would vote for him in 2020....

THIS is why we can't have nice things.

The key to your headline is "Trump supporters", and "right", they're the last people on Earth to ever realize they were played like Deliverance banjos by the Russians.

I figure they're maxed-out around 25 million, on account of that's been a floor for a while now, now matter what their Glorious Leader does.

I'm not all that interested in the knuckle-draggers. Remember in the early days of the Trumpster fire, we were urged to "reach out" and "understand their concerns"? Such bullshit. These are the irredeemables. The ones who'll fade away when Trump finally crashes and burns, not even bother with the "he wuz framed!" excuse, just quietly lurking, waiting for their next opportunity to inject their venom into America. Dontcha wish the red maggot caps would permanently bond to their heads, so we can see 'em coming a mile away?

But while the die-hard morons are fun to (verbally) slap around, I find myself wondering these days about a growing slice of that other ~40 million. The ones who voted for Trump, but no longer support him. There are more and more of those.

They are the ones who might be feeling like idiots, and not even particularly useful idiots, about now.

Just between you and me, RL, I have this hope that some conservative Zoners might be among the remorseful. Or at least the starting to doubt. We once had this rare contingent of conservatives who could hold a conversation beyond rhythmically grunting "USA!". Except for a couple, they never really seemed the types to go over so completely into the Dark Side.

I wonder what they're feeling these days? Or, being good stolid conservatives, rather, what considered thoughts they may have these days about their former Leader and the present kerfluffle?

I fear we may never know. But continuing to distinguish conservative Zoners from irredeemable Trump supporters might make the place more welcoming for them.

I regret not snagging Lee when he roared through the day after the election, swaggering and pissing. Now there</i is a worthy pinata to stand in for all Trump supporters. Maybe I'll send him email, get you some fresh meat. How's that sound?
