Banning bumpstocks is an obvious and reasonable action. I see many conservatives resisting. It's a short circuit in conservative thought.

If possible, please spare me the snarky comments.

The thing I fear is that after passing a no-brainer prohibition against bumpstocks, a device intended to circumvent another legal prohibition, politicians will call it a day and claim they've finally "done something". All they will have done is preserve an awful status quo.

I'm one of those people who thinks the militarization of the police is a terrible development. I'll bet your local police force has started replacing the old "black maria" coupe with SUVs big enough to carry all their heavy weaponry and surveillance gear. Police SUVs are a sign we're on the road to hell.

But at times like this, I get my nose rubbed in what the cops are up against. They're outgunned, thanks to the NRA. We're defenseless in public places, thanks to the NRA. All so gun manufacturers make a profit, and raving paranoids get validation? Seeing what the bogus doctrine that citizens need heavy weapons to defend themselves against a "tyrannical" government has wrought, I'll take the "tyrannical" government.

With no sunset clause.
The penalties for high cap magazines, bumpstocks and hellfire triggers should be the same as that for silencers- 10 years in prison and a $10,000 dollar fine.
