Hazing fraternities and fascist regimes are similar in that they get their supporters to become complicit in their crimes. They make full membership contingent on the applicant sharing in the guilt and crimes of the collective.
Sure, you get hazed, but you soon earn the right to haze others…

They use increased acceptance by the group as a reward for the applicant, which now forces the applicant to share in the crime and guilt of the group. The more you become an accomplice, the harder it is to question the organization, its principles or its motives.

“First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist, so I did nothing…”. You know how the rest of that goes.
