A few considered criticisms tells me the book engaged you, and challenged you to think of how it could be better. I took it positively, Rob.

A few criticisms. I think she could have done a better job of bringing visuals to the technology and the species of the compact. Luckily I read the appendix which does just that but still is lacking in detail. Also you never saw Tully's viewpoint. I guess that comes in the following books?
Still a page turner in spots.
Thanks again Robert.

I particularly loved the Chanur series, and it embodies all the things I praised about Cherryh's writing, most strikingly the situation of the lone human, and the long and painstaking struggle to understand (it's just begun where you are). It will also [minor spoiler] have some of those realistic/relativistic space battles I mentioned. I think you'll be happy with it.

I downloaded the Kindle version of "The Pride of Chanur" So far, my favorite part is the beginning attempt at communication with the being they brought on board. Using symbols to build a language is quite interesting. I assume that's what they're doing, just got to that part.

Seasons I and II of the Expanse are now available on DVD and they are both BETTER than the books, although they have already started to stray from the written versions. Its one of the few cases where the dramatic presentation is better than the original novel.

Its a very good book about a newcomer on a tightknit small spaceship where half the crew is aliens plus an AI in the ship. Not a challenging read, but good for the alien interaction stuff.

She also has a sequel out, which I found just as good as the 1st, though it only follows one of the characters from the first...sort of.
