After eight years of a black Liberal, the thought of a female Liberal (especially a Clinton, the last President of a truly peaceful and prosperous America) was more than they could stomach. Yes, there is misogyny and racism and fascism in that constituency, but even among those Conservatives who may be innocent of those evils, they still had to come face to face with the hard realization that they could no longer rely on those familiar old prejudices among their base any longer. And now they are, for the most part, committed to follow those ancient sins to their logical conclusion. Trump resurrected and released the last gasp of those old attitudes, those ancient evils, in the rapidly dwindling portion of the population that still sees them as normalcy, Americanism and civic virtue. Even among the Republicans who realized this, and perhaps were even troubled by it, they understood this was going to be their last chance to conjure up that old, dark magic. They sold their souls to the Devil and I have no sympathy for them. They knew exactly what they were doing. Whatever good and nobility there is in Conservatism (and I truly believe there is) has been squandered on this brute and the barbarians who see him as Savior.
