		<description>They are on Mauna Kea which is a dormant (but not technically extinct) volcano in the north side of the island- the eruptions are on the south east side of the island.

I believe a few years back a magnitude 5 or 6 hit and Keck shut down for checkout... it was after my time there...

I experienced a couple of small quakes when I was living there- all below magnitude 4- and never felt any while up on the mountain.

I doubt even the solar observatory on Mauna Loa was impacted, and its much closer to the action.</description>
