But we could get past that. Sooner or later it was bound to happen, maybe even with a Democrat. The real problem we have to face is that there is a substantial proportion of the American people (about a quarter) who simply can't see that he's insane. And there is another substantial minority (also about a quarter) who can see it but just don't care. And of course, there is another quarter that aren't even bothering to pay attention. And whenever Trump leaves public life, for whatever reason, that 3/4 of the population will still be there. I believe I'm starting to fall into McFly's way of thinking. The problem is not that Trump threatens democracy, but that democracy made Trump possible--perhaps even inevitable. Its not so much that democracies under stress can make bad choices, its that given sufficient stress, they can be counted on to make the wrong choice.
