“Today’s press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory,” McCain said. “The damage inflicted by President Trump’s naiveté, egotism, false equivalence, and sympathy for autocrats is difficult to calculate. But it is clear that the summit in Helsinki was a tragic mistake.”
McCain’s statement also refers to Trump’s sidestepping of a reporter’s question who asked who Trump believed on whether Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election.
“President Trump proved not only unable, but unwilling to stand up to Putin,” McCain said. “He and Putin seemed to be speaking from the same script as the president made a conscious choice to defend a tyrant against the fair questions of a free press, and to grant Putin an uncontested platform to spew propaganda and lies to the world.”

And did you check out Trump’s and Putin’s body language during the post-summit news conference? The Russian was swaggering like a cossack licking his bloody saber, and he couldn’t wipe his possum-eating-shit grin off his face.. And our POTUS looked like he had just been bitch-slapped into submission by his cellmate. Yeah, I know, “body language” doesn’t mean anything, it is open to interpretation and the bias of the observer. But if I noticed it and saw it that obviously the rest of the world noticed it too, on live TV. They saw our President cringing and humiliated, and whether he really was or not is really irrelevant, that’s how it came across. As they say today, those were the “optics”. He acted a lot tougher when he was patronizing and insulting Angela Merkel and Theresa May, didn’t he?

It was a real “Peace in our time.” moment. A Munich moment.
