Remember Trump’s commission to establish the extent of voter fraud in the 2016 election? It’s pretty clear this was proposed to explain the fact that in spite of the electoral college victory, Trump lost to Clinton by several million popular votes. This commission was supposed to establish this numerically as Democratic voter fraud. In fact, it was designed to do that from the start. Again, like the infamous inaugural crowd debate, and the rejection of the Putin election meddling, they seem to point to his pathological fear that his Presidency will be seen as illegitimate. After all, that’s what he tried to do to Obama and Ted Cruz with Birtherism. Remember the detectives he was going to send to Hawaii to dig up Obama’s REAL birth certificate?

It didn’t work, (see link below), but can there be any doubt that this was an attempt to establish a mechanism that would ensure future Republican election victories, forever? Not only was the bogus result of this commission predetermined by its Republican architects, an attempt was made from the start to exclude Democratic oversight into the process, which meant next time (and every other time) they tried it they could get away with it. Only court-forced releases of documents prevented this from happening, but the GOP continues stacking the Federal Courts with their people. Next time we may not be so lucky.

This November, there will be charges of election fraud if the GOP loses. If they have to, they will blame the Russians, because as Trump reminded us just a few days ago, “they really wanted Hillary to win, because nobody is tougher on Russia than I am”.

The GOP is running out of old white guys. They feel compelled to do something–whatever it takes–to Make America White Again. You can only do so much with gerrymandering and voter suppression. Sooner or later, you’re going to need to steal an election.

Remember, if the Republican Congress votes as a bloc to back him up, and if the press is not believed, discredited successfully (or prevented from publishing), any election result Trump wants can be established, regardless of what actually happens at the polls. It won’t matter what the Democrats, or the press, or the courts or anyone else says. They’ll just ignore it, like they did the calls to see the tax returns.

This commission not only proved they are capable of doing this, but that they have already tried once and will almost certainly try again.
