<blockquote>
<a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/05/politics/chuck-grassley-judiciary-committee-women/index.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley</a> on Friday suggested the lack of women on the committee was due to its heavy workload, but later said the committee is a lot of work for male senators as well.

When asked why there aren't more female senators on the committee, the Iowa Republican said: "Well, it's a lot of work. Don't forget, compared to a lot of committee meetings, we have an executive every Thursday. ... So it's a lot of work. Maybe they don't want to do it."
When asked if he wants to see a woman added to the committee, Grassley said, "Well, we can't do anything about that."</blockquote>

A battle isn't the war, etc etc.

The struggle between the fascists and the constitution is still on a razor's edge, the advantage shifts back and forth, and it may not be decided until 2020.

In a way, that would be better. To further pursue your metaphor, we needed Pearl Harbor to finally wake us up. Losing a few BB's was worth it because its what it took to really piss us off. If the Japanese attack had failed and they had immediately sued for peace, our America Firsters would have kept us out of the war and America would be fascist today.

If the Trump faction in Congress is totally defeated next month, everything bad that happens for the next two years will be blamed on future "Liberal obstruction and betrayal" rather than past Conservative ineptness and crime.

I hate to say this, but we really need for the GOP to fully preside over a historical national catastrophe, to be the undeniable authors and owners of it, before their role in precipitating it is fully imprinted in our collective political unconscious. If Trump is not completely demonstrated to be their Hoover, the Republicans will continue to paint him as their Roosevelt. Remember, they're still blaming Obama for the Middle East and the Great Recession.

There's a widespread perception that Trump has begun to attack the #MeToo Movement, and the understanding that it's an attack on a wide range of women's rights, their personal sovereignty. And that, naturally, Kavanaugh will be Trump's blunt instrument on the Court.

I'm becoming more and more certain that this election will stomp Trump's Republican Party flat. And that women will play a decisive role. Or if Nov 6th isn't a knockout blow, it'll fatally weaken them for 2020.

I've witnessed half a century of modern feminism, and I know better than to think these women, three generations of them, will give up their rights without a truly epic fight.

This may be their time, and us men may play a secondary role. Which is a delightful irony.

I'll try not to quote Admiral Yamamoto until Election Day.

we've become so obsessed with the sexual aspects of this case that no one, Dem Or Rep, seems to have noticed that the man is, by his own testimony, known to be obsessed with the conspiracy theory politics of Alex Jones (and Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump). Even if the FBI investigation turns up evidence that he HAS been an innocent victim of a malicious smear job by the Democrats, the Press, and Dr Ford, he has disqualified himself with his own words. We have every reason to believe, again, by his own remarks, that he will approach every decision as an opportunity to get his revenge against his political enemies.

Not only that, even if all his future decisions on the court are obviously a result of this bias, even if they cannot possibly be justified, his defenders will always have a ready-made excuse about how he was abused, and why he should continue doing what he is doing...until the day he dies or retires..
