I you maintain a constant balance over $50K all banking is free. If you live from paycheck to paycheck, like most folks, everything costs extra. My customer service number is different, too, so I bet when I call up with a problem or complaint I get better service.

the vulnerability to crime of our e-commerce is so profound that the people who know how bad it is dare not let out the news. The greed of our corporate sector to sell as much as possible as cheaply as possible has resulted in a structure so easily penetrated by crime that it is essentially worthless. There is no need to pay for anything, you can just refuse to pay your bills and who's to say otherwise. There no longer is any debtor's prison, so if you refuse to pay up all they can threaten you with is fraud charges or to take away your credit. If you don't need credit, and if you keep your thefts low enough its not worth it to prosecute, what can they do, refuse to market any more credit cards to you? Not bloody likely.

Consumer fraud used to be relatively rare, and it wasn't because people in the olden times were any more honest.

I am pretty sure you just used those words, in that order, for the first time in the history of the universe...

"God bless the Bank of America"... a first time for everything....

I use a Credit Union for most my day-to-day banking, and about 18 months ago I went through a period where my card number was somehow getting stolen every month or two... I have no idea how it was happening, but they would usually catch it the same day the culprits used it and put a hold on it and called me... sometimes they only got to use it for a couple of small test purchases at fast food places and grocery stores, other times it was a few hundred dollars spent buying phones usually in some distant state...

The last time, however, it was a few hundred dollars on subscriptions to dating sites for older people like "Our Time" and 'E-harmony' and others- my best guess it was a cat-fisher using my card to create dating profiles to lure in more victims... I got all the funds returned every time, usually within a few days.

I suspect a few of the stolen numbers were due to placing orders over the phone with a local Chinese restaurant but that only explained a few...
