House Majority Leader Pelosi has reportedly postponed the State of the Union Address until after the government shutdown issue is resolved. Mr Trump will be allowed to present it in writing, instead. I’m not sure I agree with this, I think President Trump deserves to be greeted at his address to the Congress with a shout of “Liar!” from the gallery. I don’t recall one Republican complaining when it happened to Obama, so I see no reason why they should object to see it applied to their man.

I would like to suggest an alternative to Speaker Pelosi: schedule the address on Superbowl Sunday, preferably at kickoff time! Not only would this allow the American public to vote in their living rooms with their TV remotes, but it would also force our lawmakers to give up what they really would rather be doing in order to perform their constitutional duty.

As a Master of Media obsessed with ratings and audience shares, I’m sure a great showman like Mr Trump would appreciate the gesture.
