The hostage negotiations continue. January 24, 2019 5:26 am ER

The Democrats had better not give in to Trump’s shakedown over the wall. If they do, it will only be the start of a new legislative tactic by the GOP: blackmail. Now that the Democrats have the ability to stop any legislation they find unacceptable, extortion is the only recourse left to the Right.

So if the Conservatives want to fire Mueller, dismantle EPA or OSHA, sell all Federal Lands for ten cents on the dollar to raise money, abolish public education, make abortions illegal, get rid of all corporate taxes or whatever, they will now have a precedent and a history. And the Democrats will have a reputation as cowards and collaborators.

Remember, Trump couldn’t get his wall when he controlled both houses of Congress, but now when he only has a tenuous hold on one, the normal legislative process won’t work for him at all. We are seeing a glimpse of the future. And what’s to stop them? The Supreme Court? Yeah, right.

This debate isn’t about immigration policy, its about a fascist coup against constitutional government. You don’t give in to blackmail, and you don’t negotiate with terrorists.
