Trump JUST claimed again that the press is the ‘enemy of the people’ – he wants to change libel laws to silence the press- a fascist tactic that has been used many times to destroy democracies- and you can be damn sure that our cowardly conservatives know how dangerous this is, but they will remain silent in hopes it all works out to their benefit …

Spoiler alert: It Won’t- it NEVER DOES.

No, Trumpers support the man because they like what he does, or what he claims he is going to do, whether he actually does it or not. Trump’s message is he is not going to let other countries push us around, that he is going to clean up the bums and welfare people once and for all, that he is going to drive the immigrants away, that he will be ruthless with those who commit crime. If these evil people are suppressed, his flock (who are continuously reminded how hard-working and responsible they really are) will naturally get the prosperity and comfort they deserve, instead of the shit sandwich they are currently dining on. And he is going to make us feel good by upholding Christian and patriotic values. Whether he is actually going to do this or not is something else again. The point is that is what he is SAYING he is going to do. And the Deplorables love to have someone tell them how noble and responsible they are, and how god himself has guranteed to give them everything they want. The MAGA crowd knows you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, and they really don’t care what kind of mess Trump leaves in the kitchen as long as they get THEIR breakfast.

He is telling his flock that they are clean, Christian, law-abiding patriotic, hard-working, decent people and that the country is being taken over by people who aren’t, therefore anything he does is justified to eliminate that filth. And of course, that filth is the other party, the Liberals, the Democrats, those candy ass fancy smart aleck know-it-alls in the colleges, Hollywood and the media who are determined to steal their stuff, primarily by enlisting the aid of blacks, foreigners, and the poor.

And Trump didn’t come up with this narrative, its always been a part of American politics–inextricably entangled with racial and class divisions (the good guys in this movie always seem to be white businessmen of N European ancestry). This has been the script, certainly since post-Civil War Reconstruction, and especially for the last half-century or so. It flares up whenever those with power and wealth feel threatened–during the Reform Era of the early 20th century, after the New Deal, during the hippy-dippy Civil Rights 1960s, and during the Reaganite Reaction to Watergate.

Basically, Trump represents those who are already stealing (through wealth inequality) our stuff, primarily by enlisting the aid of threatened wage workers, racists, and religious fanatics to do their dirty work for them and to conceal the hidden economic and hegemonist agenda that drives it all. Trump has commandeered the basic Conservative world-view, that all good people will naturally rise to the top because they are intrinsically superior, its in their blood and their breeding. And if they don’t succeed its only because evil greedy, envious, grasping poor people of inferior races and creeds, led by a conspiracy of over-educated, conceited elitists who are incapable of owning their own businesses.

The Trumpers are the Nazis, the Conservatives are those who thought they could use and control them, the Deplorables are the rank and file blood-and-soil Aryans who bought their line, the poor are the Bolsheviks and the Liberals are the Jews. Its fascism. It really is that simple.

Personally, I find this photograph offensive. And I find people who don’t find it offensive……offensive.
