30% of the nation will have have an unreasoning pathological hatred for her...or him.

Obama was a charismatic, middle of the road, upstanding, family man, intellectual, non-threatening moderate centrist, but he was painted by the Right as a Socialist Muslim from Kenya who faked his college transcripts. And he won twice! But he was afraid to scare the rednecks, when that's exactly what he should have done. Hell, Jimmy Carter was a Southerner, a farmer, a businessman, a veteran and squeaky clean born-again Christian to boot, and the knuckle draggers hated his guts. Besides, the left should never consider any candidate that might appeal to the Right. Those people are no god-damned good, we don't want anybody they'll accept, on principle.

There is no way to please these inbred trailer-trash barbarians and their vulture Capitalist puppet masters, the only thing we can do is bitch-slap them into submission. If we run a plain vanilla clean-cut mayo-on-white bread moderate they'll either roll over him with another fascist, or bring in some corporate Romney clone--basically, Trump with a $100 haircut.

No, now is the time to run a true Progressive, a fire-breathing Mother Jones Trade Union lefty like Sherrod Brown, and I don't mean some artsy-fartsy Kumbayah flake like Beto or those Brown Twins or that ditzy Puerto Rican babe. The fascists will eat them alive. I mean someone who will leave someone elses teeth on the sidewalk for a change.

Hillary was a good choice last time, but they had too much time to build up a phony case against her, even if they couldn't prove a word of it. She won the popular vote, that must mean something. What we need is another Hillary, or even a Jerry Brown, only a young one.

Too bad Sherrod's not running, and Al Franken was taken out by a pre-emptive PC strike. But Liz and Bernie and Joe are all we've got, and the boys are just too old.

That leaves Warren, she's smart, she's experienced, she's articulate, she's pissed and she knows the economy and how to regulate the bastards who want to run it for their own personal profit. Right now, that's exactly what we need.

We won't have Trump around forever, we may never get another chance like this again

she is the best qualified and most capable of the candidates on the Democratic side, and her politics are most in step with my own. I like her as much as I do Bernie, and for the same reasons, although I feel he is too old to run for POTUS. He is still sharp and lucid, but how long can he remain that way? I'm 71 and I can feel I'm not as mentally quick as I was just a few short years ago. The same can be said for Joe Biden, probably our most electable Democrat, but well past his prime. Still, a Warren/Sanders (or even a Biden/Warren) ticket might work, but I still think there is too much knee-jerk anti-Socialist paranoia in the country for her to get elected today.

As for the rest of the Democrat Klown Kar, nobody really stands out. Still, you have to admit; ANY Democrat is preferable to EVERY Republican. The GOP's unquestioning support for Trump has disqualified that whole party from serious consideration. True, there have been a handful of principled and courageous Conservatives who have stood up to the man, but they have been exiled, severely punished and rejected by their own fellows. The rest of the GOP has either looked the other way, meekly fallen into line, or enthusiastically embraced Trump's barbarism. They have collectively exhibited a cowardice of cosmic proportions. Regardless of what you may think of their ideology, the Republican Party is simply not fit to lead the nation, or even participate in its administration.

OTOH, a couple more years of Trump and the nation may be more than ready for a full Socialist ticket. The country is getting a very good look at its antithesis right now and it is pretty clear that THAT simply doesn't work at all. It may seem like a cliche, but it is pretty obvious by now that Conservatism is mostly about making the game even easier for the rich, and about convincing the rest of us that one day we'll be allowed to play too.

There is one good thing you can say about Trump and his followers, though. It took less than a year of their antics to make Socialism with a captal "S" a viable alternative and appealing to a sizable portion of the population. You have to admit, that is quite an accomplishment.
