The time is long past when he could discredit McCain's reasons for opposing him. Bringing his memory back up only recalls and underscores how thoroughly and completely McCain took him down. As for his followers "facing themselves in the mirror", that is a lot easier to understand. They got everything they wanted: Obamacare is gutted, global warming is pushed aside, corporate regulation is diminished and they got their tax cut. Trump's a small price to pay for these people. Besides, no matter how distasteful Trump's rants may be, they piss off the Liberals so that makes them all right.
