This “we” of which you speak isn’t such a tiny beleagured band as your despair suggests. The garbage so blindly loyal to Trump that they’re unwilling to see that “Trump and his people are shits” can never be convinced, but what you’re perhaps not seeing is that most of the other ~65% don’t need convincing. “We” already know.

I’m sure how you perceive Trump support is regional. I’m fortunate to live in a place where I’m not surrounded by red MAGA hats, and sure, that may make me over-optimistic. But it’s not just region, it’s gender and demographics. Non-rural women solidly hate Trump’s guts, and bigger picture, what Trump has shown the world of the true face of conservatism has ensured that the young are lost to the right forever. All that right-wing “outreach” to try to radicalize the young isn’t a sign of their strength, it’s a sign of their panic as they realize that, as Mitch McConnell admitted a while back, they’re not birthing angry white men as fast as angry white men are dying off.

And don’t overestimate the propaganda value of “the economy”. People understand, for the most part, that there’s the 1%’s economy, and then there’s their economy. The Republican tax cut for billionaires and their corporations truly doesn’t seem to have impressed many people. Even the Trump trash are forced to make excuses for it, but they’re grumbling about their smaller refunds.

And finally, all that attempted comfort made no reference to the Mueller report–basically, even without the report, Trump has almost no chance of reelection. If the report is damaging, it may shave a few more points off the hardcore moron support; and even if Trump personally escapes justice (for now), legal troubles for his immediate family and “friends” may make him look for an exit instead of a second term.

Did it work?

We know for a fact that the president committed crimes- that has been established… the illegal payoffs to porn stars, the self dealing of his foundation, and the tax avoidance scheme, and lying on financial documents- those are known crimes…

Whatever the outcome, we can count on many more headlines like these:

As long as the economy remains strong, no one will move against him, and after the Mueller report dies down, the let-down will prevent any new revelations or crises from getting any traction.

If anybody can cheer me up, I’ll welcome you to try, but I doubt you’ll be able to do so. Remember, the issue is NOT whether or not Trump and his people are shits, they certainly are. The question is, can we convince enough others for them to do something about it? Most people are too busy playing with their brackets.

I have a very bad feeling about this.

Let’s suppose the report is damning, let’s suppose as unlikely as it is that somehow congress impeaches him… does ANYONE believe Trump would admit defeat? Or is it more likely that he would burn our nation and the world down rather than be remembered as a loser?
