He lies even when it gives him no particular advantage or benefit. He lies when he knows it can be easily checked and shown to be false, or even when it is obvious he’s lying on its face. He lies because he knows that it will add emphasis to his words or claims that will have a longer-lasting effect than the revelation later on that it is a lie.

He has mastered the art of the self-reinforcing lie. He knows the psychological boost his lie will temporarily add to his followers will outlast the eventual realization to everyone else that it IS a lie. His cult will revel in the “AHA! So there! Take that!” aspect of the lie, (his victims are always looking for someone to blame, and for painful and humiliating revenge on their enemies). They find the lie more pleasurable and reinforcing than the inevitable discovery that it is not true.

Besides, even if incontrovertible proof of the lie is demonstrated later on, it can always be dismissed with a “All politicians do that.”

He lies because all businessmen lie, all advertisers and propagandists do, its why they never take responsibility for their lies in court, or whatever harm their products or claims do to consumers and investors, employees, creditors or the environment. They figure that even if the marks eventually realize its a lie, by the time they do they will have bought and paid for the con anyway. Evading consequences is always easier than asking permission.

There is no “truth in advertising” law, but they have managed to convince the rubes there is. They lie because they feel they are entitled to do so because they are better than the rest of us.

I don’t know one way or another whether Trump checks in with his boss via voice or video call. The transcript at whitehouse.gov doesn’t say. To me it’s probably not the most consequential of the POS’s 10,000 lies and counting.

The harm they do is the only way they matter- its the only lasting mark they will leave on this world…

And their grandchildren will curse them for it.

They are from another era, another time. They just don’t matter any more.

Rob, TB, Frank, etc- they all knew that Trump spouted lies, some of them admitted as much on this board before they went into hiding- its just that they felt the lies advanced their agendas, so they voted for the fiction.

They accepted the lies about thousands of American Muslims cheering as the twin towers fell, because it advanced their desire to discriminate against muslims.

They accepted his lies about south american immigrants and asylum seekers because it justified their blatant bigotry against them.

They accepted his lies about his Russian dealings because the alternative is to admit they were willing collaborators in treason.

We have surpassed 10,000 lies from this president, and his followers have not flinched yet- they will swallow his bullshit with a grin on their faces and happily ask for more.

Because when lies are all you have to justify your beliefs, you will die before you question them… you will cage children and separate them permanently from their parents, allow journalists to be butchered, kill any number of innocents before questioning the lies…

They have let themselves be dragged so low that they now have no choice but to keep going- because admitting what they have let themselves become, and how easy it was for them to throw away their ‘values’ would be worse than death for them.
