If you get any of his supporters alone and press him on his lies, inconsistencies and contradictions he will grudgingly admit that Trump is a bit boorish, confused, erratic and uncoordinated. But that is not enough for them to withdraw their support for him altogether because of “all he has managed to get done”. I’ve heard Conservatives say that on the floor of Congress, on TV talk shows, and right here on the Zone.

Trump has stopped all action on climate change, lowered corporate taxes, scuttled government regulations that protect the worker, the consumer and the environment from unscrupulous businessmen, denied health care to those who can’t afford it, and made it harder for little brown people from south of the border to come here legally (while still making it easy for American businessmen to exploit their cheap and docile labor illegally). His program of deliberate and extravagant budget deficits has allowed the economy to hyperinflate…at least, for the time being.

Regardless of how they actually feel about him, there is nothing these sanctimonious hypocrites will do to stop him because he is catering to their short term financial interests directly. Its the same reason German Conservatives backed Hitler; he was going to lower taxes, crush the unions, get rid of the Communists, restore law and order, punish those that had stabbed the Reich in the back and Make the Fatherland Great Again.

Besides, they always felt they could control him and his Deplorables if he went too far.

There is a reason I keep on bringing up these historical parallels. They are no accident, they are no coincidence; that’s how fascism works and that’s what it does. Not only do the lyrics rhyme, the music is hauntingly familiar.
