If I live to 80 (2051), I think there is at least an even chance I will see a dramatic collapse of civilization in large parts of the globe.

I think that it is a certainty I will see the rise of fascism world wide... I simply do not see a scenario that avoids it- indeed, it is starting far sooner than I would have anticipated 5 years ago.

The coming decades will be be grim, and it only gets worse the further ahead you look.

It isn't a singularity we are approaching, it is a swarm of black holes that will rip global civilization to shreds.

Every new bit of data on the climate crisis we face demonstrates that the previous predictions were not alarmist- on the contrary- the predictions of 2 years ago have been shown to be unrealistically rosy.

Even optimistic projections are showing that large swaths of the globe will start becoming unlivable by 2050. I am talking about areas where temperatures exceed the human body's ability to survive. Crop failures and famine will make those areas death traps long before that.

Will these 100's of millions politely die quietly? Of course not... there will be a tsunami of refugees, and of course there will be war- swelling the flood of refugees still further.

Add to that those refugees created by vastly more frequent and more violent natural disasters, and those driven from coastal areas by sea level rise.

Now look how fascists here in the USA and in Europe have vaulted to prominence and power by exploiting the tiny trickle of refugees in the past few years.

The flux of refugees across our southern border the past few years has been far lower than what we have seen in the past, but Trump was able to manufacture a crisis from it in the minds of those thirsting for an authoritarian.

When the refugee flow increases orders of magnitude in the years to come, it seems inescapable that we will see a fascist orgy world wide.

That is just ONE of a multitude of all-consuming black holes coming in this century.

I fear the human race has been run, we fell far short of the finish line... and with the damage done to get to this point, I do not see us ever getting back up.
