Donald Trump’s father was born in New York to German parents and was brought up in a German-speaking environment. His mother was born in Scotland. My father was born in Tampa, and my mother in New York City, both brought up in a Spanish-speaking environment by parents from the Old Country. Technically, (from a purely nativist and genealogical point of view) that makes me more American than the President of the United States.

Of course, the President is “white”, and I’m not; not by physical appearance or ethnic accent, but by the fact my grandparents weren’t from Northern Europe. To him, I am a “person of color” because my distant relatives can be traced to Spain, and his to Germany, two locations a few thousand miles away, a few hundred miles apart.

Of course he’s racist. Most Americans are, even the majority with foreign roots, and especially the minority with Northern European roots.
