Just a reminder, the budget deficit is only the amount we have overspent THIS YEAR. The national debt, which includes all we have overspent in previous years, is now over 22 trillion dollars.

One of the valid points Conservatives have made over the years, and which Liberals have tended to ignore, is that sooner or later this irresponsible fiscal policy was going to catch up with us, leading either to depression or runaway inflation, or both. But the Democrats insisted on spending more money, and the Republicans kept on trying to find ways to get out of paying taxes. But there is a fundamental difference between the policy of the two parties.

Democrats poured billions into social programs which benefited the people, and put more wealth into circulation which tended to improve the economy. Republicans concentrated on attacking social programs and lowering taxes for the wealthy, so that any savings due to their policies went only to the rich. To be fair, it wasn't just the very rich who benefited. but the richer you were, the more you made out. So the middle class sold out...you can always count on them for that.

Review recent history. The tax cuts and welfare slashing of the Clinton/Gingrich years produced our last budget in the black, but did little to reverse the overall debt. The Bush administration gave us war on the credit card and an economic crash in 2007. Obama spent money like a mad fucker, but at least he avoided a global financial collapse and gave us a steadily, if slowly, improving economy. We got something for our debt.

Trump is now capitalizing on that recovery, but instead of preparing for the next recession by building up our cash reserves, he is pouring fuel on an overheated economy and redlining the country (and the world) into the next global financial panic. Instead of keeping growth moderate by financial and monetary policy so that in the next downturn a little deficit spending can be injected into the system to keep the economy stable, he is instead burning our seed corn. He is trying to buy his reelection with a rosy economy, but unlike Bush, he's trying to avoid the downtrend at the end of his watch, and doing everything he can to postpone it until after the next election. Like all Cons, he talks a lot about fiscal responsibility, but all he really cares about is the freedom to continue fishing with dynamite.

So what happens if he wins, the Conservatives get their way, and THEN the economy tanks? Well, think about it. The economy will tank for us, he and his friends will do just fine. As in global warming, whatever bad comes from all this, it will hit the poor first, and only slowly work its way up the class ladder. By the time it gets to the point where the rich are threatened, it may be too late for them, but those who are richer than them will still have time to live fat. Look around the world, and throughout history. No matter how bad things are, the rich(er) will always live better than the poor(er). And they intend to keep it that way.

The budget deficit is scheduled to hit 960 billion dollars this year, and a trillion by 2020. And the Red Menace is trying to print more IOUs. He's promising more tax cuts, especially capital gains taxes.

In spite of an economy that is booming, Trump is doing everything he can, via interest rate manipulation and tax cuts, to maintain the boom until the elections. Afterwards. it doesn't matter. If he wins, the Right will have another four years in power to do what they want, and a mandate to do whatever they want. They will consolidate their position. And if he loses, they can blame the inevitable crash, and all the nastiness which will follow, on the Democrats.

IOW, if we DON"T have a severe recession by 11/2020, fascism in America will be here forever.

I wonder when they will realize that it isnt worth the paper it is written on?

They whored their principles for nothing more than the promises of a man they knew to be a liar.

They deserve what is coming. Their victims do not.
