So, who ratted out the Trump gang in the infamous Ukraine phone call?
We may never know for sure, but some suspects can be identified right now. Just look at the timeline.
Trump’s tete-a-tete with the Ukrainian PM was on 25 Jul 2019.
The whistleblower memo delivered to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees was dated 12 Aug.
Dan Coats resigned 15 August, he was succeeded by Joseph Maguire the following day.
John Bolton resigned 10 September.
It is inconceivable that either Coats and Bolton were unaware of the whistleblower action, and in my opinion, both resigned in protest to the President’s handling of the situation. I suspect one or both are the whistleblower, or passed on the information to some third party who chose to take on that role. Regardless of their own personal politics, these men saw that further association with this President was a stain on their personal reputation and an affront to their own sense of duty. They would be seen by history as collaborating with treason. As for Maguire, he probably just had this hot potato dumped in his lap. He had no idea what he was getting into. I also suspect the whistleblower conspiracy was confident he would honor his legal and ethical obligations.
So why didn’t members of the President’s Intelligence staff simply go public with this information? First, they didn’t want to become identified as collaborating with the Democrats, and they certainly didn’t want to become known as informers or traitors to their own ideology. It would ruin their careers, and make them outcasts among their own kind. They did what they saw as the honorable thing, to resign because of irreconcilable differences with their employer–or they were fired because they made their opinions known to their boss. The whistleblower role is not only defined by law, it also provides anonymity.
Besides, whoever the whistleblower is, his life is now in danger. Although I personally don’t believe they would be targeted by the President’s staff or on his orders, there are many of the President’s followers who would feel it their patriotic and Christian duty to kill the man who embarrassed and crippled their hero.
They don’t call them Deplorables for nothing.
