Erdogan is pissed because the US won’t extradite that dissident cleric who has claimed asylum in the US (it would look awful if we surrendered him now, especially after the way Erdogan has been cracking down on his domestic political opponents). So Erdogan has been buying Russian anti-aircraft systems and threatening our monster Air Force base at Incirlik (yeah, the one where we stockpile nukes) with eviction–or worse. This is the key refueling and forward support base for all our air ops in the middle east.

Of course, any hope that relations with Turkey will return to normal after Trump is gone are pretty much gone now that Donald has made public the contents of his ridiculous schoolyard bully letter to the Turkish President. Erdogan has responded by simply cracking down on the Kurds and working with the Russians. It doesn’t look like he was intimidated one bit.

If I was Donald I would start evacuating Incirlik immediately, and take our nukes home before they wind up being shipped to Russia–or even Iran.

Yes… Trump actually said that, in order to explain why we don’t owe Kurds all that much…

“Now the Kurds are fighting for their land,”

Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday.

“As somebody wrote in a very powerful article today, they didn’t help us in the Second World War, they didn’t help us with Normandy, as an example,” the president added. “They’re there to help us with their land, and that’s a different thing.”

We knew this was going to happen.

They did too, but they didn’t care. They were getting a tax cut, they were going to stop Obamacare, they were going
to torpedo the whole global warming thing, they were going to put their people in the Supreme Court, and they were going
to make sure the undocumented work force would remain in place but in constant fear of deportation so they would remain docile and terrified.

The next step would be the elimination of entitlements, welfare and public assistance. The nation’s natural resources and
public lands would be on sale to private industry for 10 cents on the dollar. Regulations that protect the environment, the consumer, the accused and the worker would be phased out. And the medieval superstitions of their trailer trash allies concerning race, religion, sex, abortion and homophobia would be promoted. And his friends would get to keep their guns. Meanwhile, voter suppression and redistricting would ensure we could never go back no matter how much and how many young, educated and brown working people outnumbered them.

OF COURSE they knew this was all going to happen. That was the plan from the start. They just didn’t care.
