If Trump survives an impeachment vote in the Senate of say, 55-45 FOR conviction, he will crow about his great victory (no collusion!) and then settle down to punishing his enemies and consolidating his position; the Republicans will gladly assist because they know their careers will depend on it. Everyone who voted for acquittal will be on record as having done so, so they will have to make absolutely sure he wins the general election too. And if he doesn’t, they will be tempted to back him up by helping him ignore the results.

Those who compromise themselves by sharing in his lie will be on the wrong side of history, they can never allow another Democratic majority in the future, not while they are alive.

If you have any doubt the GOP is incapable of admitting their emperor is naked, just review the way they have shamelessly covered for him so far. They can’t let him lose, they’ll be finished and they know it. There is no way the Senate will vote (with a supermajority) to convict, unless Trump has a real Cain court martial ball-bearing, stolen strawberry, geometric logic moment in the near future.

Trump must not just lose next November, he must lose big or we are finished as a democracy. This man has already promised street fighting and civil war if the next election is “rigged by the Deep State”. All the evidence we have tells us we cannot count on the GOP NOT backing him up. And I know enough of his followers to know they will fall right into line if he asks them too. Yes, it may very well be a bloodbath, they may be a minority, but they have all the guns. That is no accident, it was planned that way.

Yeah, I’m that scared. Everyone I’ve talked to who has actually been through a totalitarian takeover has told me the same thing;
“You never think it can possibly happen, and when it does its so fast you don’t realize it until its all over.”
