The name of the Ukraine whistleblower has been revealed in the right wing press. I won’t repeat the name or provide a link because that person’s life is now in danger, whether or not they are indeed the whistleblower. Trump and his people certainly know who he or she is, although they probably cannot prove it with certainty. Not that it makes any difference, the point has been made, if you threaten this president, or if you are even suspected of threatening this president, your life is vulnerable to any Deplorable with a gun out there who learns your name. Trump realizes he cannot reveal his* identity openly because he would be criminally responsible for the death of the man*. But I have no doubt he has leaked the suspect’s name to the fascist press.
In the meantime, Trump has kept the issue alive by demanding to know the man’s identity, and by suggesting outing the guy would be the patriotic thing to do. Another whistle is being blown here, the dog whistle. But you don’t have to be one of Trump’s dogs to hear it loud and clear. Not only is the man punished, but an intimidating message is broadcast to anyone else who might be tempted to do the same.
If this man is killed by some deranged Trump supporter (whether the victim was actually the whistleblower or not) Trump will be guilty of murder. This shows me Trump is capable of doing anything, to commit any crime, to further his own agenda, but still criminal enough to try and cover his tracks. And from the way many of his supporters have joined him in the attempt to publicly unmask the whistleblower, they are willing and enthusiastic accomplices to that attempted murder.
*I do not feel the need to reject the common English usage convention of employing the masculine pronoun to refer to an individual of indeterminate gender. I’m not that politically correct–yet.
