It seems the more I try to reject the use of simplistic prejudice, rationalizations and stereotypes in characterizing those I feel are my political opposites, the more they refuse to cooperate.

I would very much prefer to believe that there are subtle economic, class and cultural differences that inevitably lead to the divisions and conflicts we see metastasizing around us, that there are complex social, psychological and historical reasons for what we see happening. But the harder I look at it the more I have come to believe I am just over-intellectualizing it. I'm trying to be fair but I only wind up making excuses for them.

Basically, they are just a bunch of dumb Crackers and they don't know any better. It really is that simple.

hmmm...I recall someone else describing the Southern Poverty Law Center in almost identical terms---right here on the Zone!

...

“They are beneath public discussion, even in The Washington Post,”

I can see why WAPO (and the NYT) are so despised by the fascists. WAPO sent their last poster boy, Nixon, (and all his Presidential men) straight to hell, and if Trump is ever stopped, both newspapers will have played a key role in doing the same to him. We are lucky to have them, and the SPLC. And we are lucky to have a Constitution that makes their existence and activity possible. Its no wonder this new Republican Party has declared jihad on all of them.
