And they have no choice now but to go all the way to the end.

They only had to look at history to know that Trump would bring them to this point- but they closed their eyes and took step after step, blindly following him despite all the glaring warning signs.

They are lost now, there is no road back to where they once were. They have chained themselves to Trump. If he goes down they all go down.

And if Trump succeeds, we ALL go down- they know this as well- but they are clinging to the hope that in the process of dismantling the constitution, their enemies will suffer somewhat more harm than themselves....

At this point they will accept that as a 'win'.

That is how low they have fallen.

It all seems to hinge now on whether the GOP can succeed in voting down the motion to admit additional testimony. It is almost certain that if they can, the Senate will be able to acquit the President.

It could be argued that this will be a Pyrrhic Victory, that the extent of their duplicity will be so clear and convincing that the President and the Republicans will surely lose the next election because of the undeniability of their treachery and their lies.

But then again, this is Superbowl Weekend. Is the American voter listening? Does he even care? Lets not be quick to blame Trump, or even Conservatism, for the triumph of American fascism. We brought this all on ourselves.

The scary part is not just that they believe it, but that they expect everyone else to immediately believe it, as if it were obvious, indisputable, self-evident. They feel no need to justify it, or explain it, or debate it. Its the price we gladly pay to dismantle Obamacare, ignore global warming, and get a corporate tax cut.

That is...as long as the president is Republican.

It's not just that the President is a fascist, its that the entire Republican Party and the entire Conservative movement is fascist.
And that is now obvious, indisputable and self-evident.

Not that we didn't know that all along.
